TV star at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, tonight stunned his
studio audience and no doubt his legion of fans when he announced his
show would not return in 2010, the
Herald Sun reports.
Rumours had been circulating for
weeks about the future of the show.

It was not on the list of shows Ten promoted at a recent function
to announce its programming agenda for next year.

It was thought
McManus would rework the variety show format and return to screen next

There was talk that, following the recent monster ratings
success of the Hey Hey It’s Saturday specials, McManus would
come back in a show with a broader variety flavour.And only recently
he said: “This show is my love and my passion and it’s always what I’ve
wanted to do.

“If everything else fell down, as long as I still
get to do this thing I love then I’m happy. We have that connection with
the audience at the moment and that’s where my enthusiasm is coming

But in tonight's show he said: "It's purely my decision.
It's not one I've made lightly or flippantly. The timing was right to
stop, stand back and see what happens next."

While McManus
enjoyed healthy ratings in 2008, it’s been a struggle for the pint-sized
host this year.

The show peaked at 1.5 million viewers in June
but dropped down to 800,000 in recent weeks. It has not been helped by
having a struggling Australian Idol as a lead-in.

has been rife McManus, 35, is eyeing a permanent radio gig in 2010.He
and Peter Helliar were last week spotted at dinner with Merrick Watts,
leading to rumours they will work together at Nova next year.
