PostSubject: Judy Moran arrested over Des Moran's murder   June 16th 2009, 12:11 pm

JUDY Moran is one of four people arrested over the death of her brother-in-law Desmond "Tuppence" Moran.

A fourth person was arrested this afternoon at Myrniong, west of Melbourne.

The 45-year-old was arrested at a property in Muddy Lane, which is now being searched by police.

Earlier, Geoffrey 'Nuts' Amour, 43, was remanded in Portland Magistrates’ Court after being arrested in the southwest Victorian town.

He will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Also under arrest is Suzanne Kane, 45, the sister-in-law of Judy Moran's slain son, Jason.

Mr Amour is understood to be Ms Kane's boyfriend.

Mr Armour is expected to be charged with one count of murder, while Moran and Ms Kane are expected to be charged with being an accessory after the fact.

All four are expected to be remanded in custody.

"This investigation … evolves from the March incident where Mr Moran was subjected to a serious attempt on his life," Assistant Commissioner Dannye Moloney said this afternoon.

He also said: "I am satisfied that this murder is not connected … to the gangland murders.”

“I do not believe this is the commencement of any type of gangland war in Victoria”.

Earlier, police left Moran's home with several items of evidence, including a shotgun.

Officers have been searching the home since this morning.

They made no comment as they left the Langs Rd property.

Police won't say if Moran refused protection before his execution by masked gunmen yesterday.

Carl Williams' ex-wife Roberta says the jailed killer was surprised when she told him of Des Moran's violent death.

Moran, aged 60 and slowed down by major leg surgery, died within seconds of being ambushed in the doorway of his favourite cafe.

Moran was left slumped in the doorway of the Ascot Pasta and Deli Cafe in Ascot Vale, the 29th victim of Melbourne's gangland carnage, which started with the killing of associate Alphonse Gangitano in 1998.

Moran was killed on the ninth anniversary of the murder of his nephew, Mark, and was the fourth member of the infamous family to be murdered by gunmen.

In March a gunman botched an attempt to kill Moran as he and a friend sat in his Mercedes Benz in the driveway of his Langs Rd home, just a kilometre from where he died.

George Williams - patriarch of the rival Williams crime family - will be released from prison on Saturday.
