PostSubject: Twins 'may have been dead in cots for a week'   November 2nd 2009, 9:58 am

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,26294357-2,00.html

TWIN toddlers found decomposing in their cots may have already been dead when their mother received a visit from a concerned female friend, a court has been told.

The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard evidence from a woman who visited the accused woman at her Sunnybank Hills home on June 12 last year, just four days before the 18-month-old boy and girl were found dead in their cots.

She said the twins' mother - who cannot be identified - didn't seem very happy at the time, and didn't invite her into the house, as she usually did.

"I asked her how things were going and if she was all right," the friend said.

"She said she'd had the flu recently and hadn't been feeling very well.

"She said that she was a little bit stressed out at the moment because she and (her partner) had been having some problems."

The friend said she noticed when the woman opened the door that the usually tidy house was quite messy, but dismissed her concerns after hearing the woman had been unwell.

The friend said she drove home after offering to look after the kids if the woman felt she needed a break.

The toddlers were found dead less than a week later by police.

Investigating officer Sergeant Fred Smit told the court he arrived at the home on June 16, and found the mother sobbing in the lounge room.

He said he was surprised when she told him she thought the toddlers may have been dead for more than a week.

Sgt Smit said he was hit with a "horrible" stench when he opened the door to the room where the babies' bodies were.

The court has previously been told it's alleged the children may have been neglected for several months, and died of malnutrition.

The mother, 31, and her 29-year-old partner were both arrested and charged with two counts each of murder, torture, and failing to supply the necessities of life.

Their committal hearing continues.

I remember this story being in the news last year. I am pretty sure that at the time the press printed post from a forum she was on and the people on the forum all were saying that she gave no clues that the kids were in trouble.
